Background
During the twentieth century, the world's population tripled, while water use multiplied six times. According to the United Nations, almost 1.1 billion people have inadequate access to clean water and 2.6 billion are without appropriate sanitation. As a result, approximately 1.8 million people die every year from diarrheal disease, and astonishingly, 90 percent of those deaths occur in children under the age of five. Read more..
